Why US Brands Produce Apparel in Turkey

For American brands, Turkey sits in a useful middle ground between domestic production and long-haul Asian sourcing. Sampling turns around in one to two weeks, bulk production runs four to six weeks, and communication happens in the same working day thanks to a time difference of only seven to ten hours from most US time zones. That rhythm suits brands that drop new styles frequently and cannot wait a full season for reorders.

Turkish factories are also strong in exactly the categories many US direct-to-consumer labels build on: combed cotton t-shirts, heavyweight fleece hoodies, denim, knitwear and womenswear. Sizing and Fit for the American Market

US consumers generally expect a roomier cut than European blocks deliver, particularly through the chest, waist and seat, and US alpha sizing does not map one-to-one onto EU numeric sizes. Grading a European block straight into a US size run is one of the most common causes of high return rates for brands entering the American market.
