The word garment signals a trade buyer. Brands say clothing; importers, buying offices and wholesale distributors say garments, and they think in production terms: CMT prices, FOB terms, size ratios, AQL levels and delivery windows. This page is written in that language.

Turkish garment manufacturers cover the full spectrum of woven and knit production: jersey and fleece garments cut from locally knitted fabric, woven shirts and trousers, denim, outerwear and tailored pieces. CMT, FOB and full package explained

Garment orders in Turkey are quoted under three broad models, and knowing which one you are asking for changes every number on the quotation.

Under CMT (cut, make, trim) you supply the fabric and often the trims; the factory charges only for cutting, sewing and finishing. It suits importers with their own fabric positions and strong technical teams. Under FOB or full-package production, the manufacturer sources fabric and trims, produces the garment and delivers it export-packed; you buy a finished garment at a single unit price. Most brands and mid-size importers work FOB because it shifts fabric risk and logistics coordination onto the production side.

Our default model is full package: we source OEKO-TEX certified fabrics, manage trims and accessories, and quote a landed-cost-friendly FOB Istanbul price. CMT is possible for buyers who hold fabric, but we will tell you honestly when supplying your own fabric into Turkey creates more customs cost than it saves.

How garment costing actually works

A serious garment quotation is built from fabric consumption per piece, fabric price per kilogram or metre, trims and accessories, labour minutes multiplied by the line's minute cost, printing or embroidery charges, and packing. Overhead and margin sit on top. When a quote arrives as a single unexplained number, you cannot negotiate it intelligently.

Fabric usually represents the largest share of a garment's cost, often around half for basic knitwear, which is why fabric weight, width and wastage in the marker matter more to your price than sewing minutes do. Small spec decisions, such as moving from a 320 gsm fleece to a 280 gsm fleece, or from a full-front print to a chest print, move the unit price more than another round of haggling will.

We break quotations down so you can see where the money sits and where the spec can flex. That transparency is also your protection: a costing that cannot be explained line by line is usually hiding something.

Who sources garments from Turkey, and why

What they share is volume responsibility: they need repeatable quality, honest lead times and paperwork that clears customs without drama.

Turkey answers that profile with proximity. Road freight reaches most of the EU in 3-7 days, and goods of Turkish origin enter the EU duty-free under the Customs Union with an ATR certificate. For a buyer comparing landed cost and speed against Far East sourcing, the calculation frequently favours Turkey once duty, freight time and reorder flexibility are counted.

Turkey consistently ranks among the world's top apparel exporting countries and holds a strong share of EU clothing imports. The industry employs a large, experienced workforce across Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Denizli and the southeast, with each region carrying its own specialisation: Istanbul for fashion and outerwear, Bursa for knits, Denizli for towelling and home textiles, and the southeast for denim.

Depth is the real advantage. Because spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing and garment assembly all exist in-country, a Turkish garment manufacturer can develop fabric and garment in parallel instead of waiting on imported yardage. That vertical base is what makes 4-6 week bulk lead times realistic rather than aspirational.
