The short answer
Turkey manufactures the full apparel range, but it is not equally good at all of it. Its strongest categories are cotton jersey, fleece, knitwear, denim and outerwear, because the mills sit inside the country. Each product page below gives the fabrics, GSM range, decoration options and realistic MOQ for that category.
A supplier that claims every product equally is telling you it subcontracts everything. We would rather be specific, so these pages are organised by what is actually being sewn, because the machine, the operator and the factory change with the garment.
Where Turkey is genuinely strong is where the raw material is domestic: cotton jersey and fleece, knitwear yarn, denim and the finishing that goes with it. Where it competes rather than dominates is deep-technical performance wear and very low-cost promotional volume.
What does Turkey manufacture best?
The honest ranking, from a sourcing point of view, follows the supply chain rather than marketing. Cotton jersey and brushed fleece are the strongest categories because Turkish mills spin, knit, dye and finish them domestically, which is what makes a four to six week lead time possible at all.
Knitwear is a close second, with a deep base of gauge machinery around Istanbul and Corlu. Denim has its own ecosystem, including laundries, which is why a wash can be developed and approved locally instead of shipped abroad. Outerwear is capable but slower, because trims and technical fabrics are more often imported.
How is GSM chosen, and why does it matter more than anything else?
GSM — grams per square metre — is the single number that decides how a garment reads in the hand, and it is the number brands most often leave out of a brief. A 140 GSM tee and a 220 GSM tee are different products at different prices, sold to different customers.
- T-shirts: 140-160 GSM for a fluid summer tee, 180-200 GSM for the standard retail weight, 220-260 GSM for a heavyweight boxy fit.
- Hoodies and sweats: 280-320 GSM for a lightweight layer, 350-400 GSM for the weight most streetwear brands want, 450 GSM and up for premium loopback.
- Denim: 8-10 oz for shirts and light bottoms, 11-13 oz for the mainstream five-pocket, 14 oz and up for rigid.
- Knitwear is specified by gauge and yarn count rather than GSM: 12gg and 14gg for fine gauge, 7gg for a mid weight, 3gg and 5gg for chunky.
Which decoration technique suits which product?
Decoration is chosen against fabric and quantity, not against taste. Screen printing is the cheapest per piece once the screens are paid for, and it needs volume per colourway to justify setup. Digital printing has no setup cost and suits short runs and photographic artwork, but it behaves best on high-cotton jersey.
Embroidery prices by stitch count, not by size, and it is the durable choice on fleece, caps and workwear. Heat transfer and sublimation belong on synthetics and performance wear. Woven labels, jacquard tape and custom trims are usually what makes a garment feel considered, and they cost less than most brands expect.
How do MOQs change by product?
The 100-piece entry point applies per style and per colour across the range, but the practical minimum rises with complexity. Jersey and fleece are the easiest categories to start small in, because stock fabric exists in standard colours.
Knitwear, denim with a developed wash, and outerwear with bespoke trims all carry higher practical minimums, because the yarn, the laundry programme or the trim order has its own minimum before a single garment is made.
