240 GSM T-Shirt Manufacturer

240 GSM is the weight most premium blank and streetwear brands settle on: heavy enough to feel substantial and hold a boxy silhouette, light enough to wear year-round. We produce it through vetted Turkish knitters from 300 pieces per style.

Quick answer

240 GSM cotton jersey t-shirts, the weight most premium blank and streetwear brands settle on, are produced in Turkey by Apparel Manufacturer Turkey to a +/- 5% weight tolerance. The fabric is heavy enough to hold a boxy silhouette yet wearable year-round. MOQ is 300 pieces per style; bulk runs 4-6 weeks.

Why 240 GSM is the premium sweet spot

Fabric weight is a series of trade-offs, and 240 GSM sits at the point where most of them balance. Compared with a 180 GSM tee, a 240 GSM body is visibly more opaque, drapes with structure instead of clinging, and survives repeated washing without going limp. Compared with 300 GSM, it costs meaningfully less per unit, wears comfortably in warm months, and still reads as heavyweight on the hanger and in product photos.

That is why 240 GSM has become the default for premium blanks and first streetwear collections: it delivers the thick, boxy look buyers expect from an elevated tee without the fabric bill or the summer-sales dip that a true 300 GSM programme brings. If your brand positioning is premium-everyday rather than maximum-heavyweight, this is almost always the weight we recommend sampling first.

180 vs 240 vs 300 GSM compared

A 180 GSM combed cotton tee is a good retail basic: soft, economical, fine for fitted silhouettes, but it will not hold a drop-shoulder block and can show semi-transparency in white. A 240 GSM tee holds structure, layers well and takes dense prints cleanly. A 300 GSM tee maximises stiffness and opacity for a true heavyweight statement piece, at roughly 25-35 percent more fabric cost than 240 and with a warmer wear.

The practical decision usually comes down to silhouette and season. Fitted or classic block, year-round basics: 180-200 GSM. Boxy premium fit sold spring to autumn: 240 GSM. Winter-weighted streetwear drop or a brand built entirely on heaviness: 280-300 GSM. We can knit and sample two weights from the same yarn so you compare identical fabric at different weights, not different fabrics.

  • 180 GSM: soft basic, fitted blocks, lowest fabric cost, limited structure
  • 240 GSM: structured drape, full opacity, prints cleanly, year-round wearable
  • 300 GSM: maximum body and stiffness, highest fabric cost, cool-season bias

Fabric spec and construction we recommend at 240 GSM

Our standard 240 GSM programme is 100 percent cotton single jersey knitted from 20/1 yarn, available carded open-end for a dry matte streetwear hand or combed ring-spun for a smoother premium-basics hand. Fabric is compacted at the mill to bring residual shrinkage inside 5 percent, and we confirm it with a wash test on the pre-production sample.

Construction follows the premium-blank playbook: firm 1x1 rib neck with spandex, back-neck tape shoulder to shoulder, twin-needle sleeve and bottom hems, and side-seamed bodies so your block measurements are cut exactly as specified. Drop-shoulder, set-in and slightly oversized blocks are all standard; we grade the full size run from your base size or build the pattern from a reference garment.

MOQ, cost drivers and sampling

MOQ is 300 pieces per style with 100 pieces per colourway. At 240 GSM the fabric bill is moderate, so unit cost is driven mostly by yarn choice, block size (oversized blocks consume more fabric), decoration and any wash. Ring-spun combed yarn typically adds a small premium over open-end; a garment wash or garment dye adds process cost and 1-2 weeks to the bulk timeline.

Sampling takes 1-2 weeks: we knit or pull the fabric, cut your block, and ship a fit sample plus fabric swatches in alternative yarns if you want to compare. Bulk runs 4-6 weeks after approval, with road freight reaching most EU markets in 3-7 days. For a first programme, most brands order one style, three colourways, 300-600 pieces total.
