Clothing Manufacturing Guides and Sourcing Comparisons

Practical guides on manufacturing clothing in Turkey: MOQs, costs, tech packs, sampling, quality control, importing, and honest comparisons with the alternatives.

The short answer

This is the reference layer of the site. It answers the questions that come before a quote: how to find and vet a factory, what a tech pack has to contain, how MOQ and price are actually set, how long production takes, and where Turkey wins or loses against China, Bangladesh, Portugal and India.

Most sourcing content is written to sell. These pages are written to be used, which means they include the parts that do not flatter us: where Turkey is the wrong choice, what a supplier is unlikely to tell you, and which questions expose a middleman pretending to be a factory.

If you are producing for the first time, read the getting-started cluster in order. If you are moving an existing programme, the cost and comparison clusters will be more useful.

How do you check that a supplier is real?

Almost every sourcing disaster starts with the same mistake: believing a website. A photograph of a sewing floor proves nothing, and neither does a certificate PDF, because both are trivially copied.

What does prove something is specific, checkable and boring. Ask for the legal company name and tax number, then check it. Ask who holds each certificate you care about and verify the number on the issuing body's own database. Ask for a video call from the floor, on a weekday, with the line running.

  • Legal entity name, tax number and registered address, not just a brand name.
  • Certificate holders and licence numbers, checked against the certifier's public database.
  • A live video walk-through rather than a photo gallery.
  • A sealed sample in your hands before bulk fabric is cut.
  • A pre-shipment inspection report before the balance payment is released.

What does a garment actually cost to make?

A quote is a stack, not a number. Fabric is usually 40-60 percent of a simple garment. Then come trims and labels, cutting and sewing minutes, decoration, quality control, packing, and freight to your chosen Incoterm.

Two quotes are only comparable if the fabric specification, the quantity per colour and the Incoterm are identical. Change any one of them and you are comparing different products. Anyone quoting without asking for those three is guessing.

When is Turkey the wrong choice?

When the only thing that matters is the lowest possible unit price at very high volume, Turkey will usually lose to Bangladesh or to inland China. When the product is deep-technical outerwear with welded seams and proprietary membranes, the specialist base sits elsewhere.

Turkey wins on distance, on domestic fabric, on smaller minimums and on duty-free access to the EU. If none of those four things matter to your business, another country is the rational answer, and we would rather tell you that early than take a first order and lose the relationship on the second.

What should you send before asking for a quote?

The faster you want a real number, the more specific the brief has to be. A complete pack lets us quote in days; a photograph and a question lets us quote a range and nothing more.

  • Flat sketches or a reference garment we can measure.
  • Fabric composition, weight in GSM and finish.
  • Quantity per style and per colour, not just a total.
  • Artwork at print size with the decoration technique.
  • Destination market, target landed price and the date goods must arrive.
