Menswear splits cleanly by construction. Jersey basics and fleece come from knit factories, shirting and trousers from woven factories, denim from mills and laundries, outerwear from factories with the right machinery for padding and taping.

Fabric weight and handfeel

Menswear buyers judge quality by weight and hand before anything else. Jersey runs from around 160 gsm for a light t-shirt to 240 gsm for a heavyweight, and fleece from 280 gsm to 400 gsm and above for a heavy hoodie.

Weight alone does not decide quality. Yarn type, whether the fabric is combed, ring-spun or open end, and whether it is enzyme washed or brushed all change the result, so the specification names all of them rather than gsm on its own.

Construction detail

The details that separate a good garment from a cheap one are specified up front: shoulder taping, twin needle hems, ribbing composition and recovery, drawcord and eyelet type, pocket bags and waistband construction.

Print and embroidery are planned with the garment rather than after it. Screen print, DTG, DTF, puff and embroidery each need different placement tolerances, and those tolerances go into the tech pack before the first sample is cut.

Order sizes

The entry point is 100 pieces per style and colour. Most menswear brands start with two or three jersey styles, then scale the sellers into planned seasons.

At higher volumes fabric is knitted and dyed to order, which improves both price and colour consistency across a range, and deliveries are staged so a season lands in drops instead of one warehouse-filling shipment.
