Quick answer
GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, certifies the whole chain from fibre to finished garment, and every processor in that chain must be certified for the claim to hold. Turkey is one of the largest organic cotton producers in the world, so we can run GOTS programmes through certified Turkish mills and factories and supply the transaction certificate that proves your order came from that chain.
What GOTS certifies and what it does not
GOTS covers the fibre, the spinning, the knitting or weaving, the dyeing and finishing chemistry, and the making up, plus social criteria at each site. Every link has to be certified. A GOTS fabric sewn in an uncertified factory cannot be sold as a GOTS garment.
What proves your specific order is the Transaction Certificate, not the scope certificate. A scope certificate says a company is allowed to handle GOTS goods. A TC says these goods, this quantity, this shipment. Ask for the TC.
Why Turkey for organic cotton
Turkey grows organic cotton in the Aegean region around Izmir and Soke, spins it domestically and knits it locally. That means fewer border crossings in the chain of custody and a shorter list of certified parties to keep current.
It also means shorter lead times. A GOTS jersey programme that would take five months from Asia can usually be delivered in eight to ten weeks from Turkey, with duty free road freight into the EU.
Minimums and cost on certified programmes
Certified fabric is bought as a dedicated run, not from stock service, so GOTS programmes carry higher fabric minimums than a standard order. In practice this means a certified colour typically starts around 300 to 500 kilos of yarn, which for a mid weight jersey tee is roughly 1,500 to 2,500 pieces per colour.
For smaller quantities there are two honest routes: use an existing certified stock colour where one is available, or run the order in conventional or OEKO-TEX certified cotton and move to GOTS when the volume supports it. We will tell you which one your order actually fits rather than selling a claim you cannot certify.
