Clothing Exporters in Turkey: Getting Goods Across the Border

Producing garments is half the job; exporting them cleanly is the other half. We manage apparel production through a vetted network of Turkish manufacturers and handle the export side as standard: documentation, customs formalities, Incoterms and freight, so your goods arrive with paperwork your customs broker will accept without questions.

Quick answer

Clothing exported from Turkey to the EU generally enters duty-free under the Customs Union when shipped with an ATR movement certificate, and road freight arrives in 3-7 days. Apparel Manufacturer Turkey prepares the full export document set, commercial invoice, packing list and ATR or EUR.1, and quotes Incoterms from EXW to DAP so landed costs stay comparable.

Why Turkey's export position matters to importers

Turkey's customs union with the EU means industrial goods, including apparel, generally move into EU member states free of customs duty when accompanied by an ATR movement certificate. Combined with road transit times of three to seven days, this makes Turkish production behave logistically almost like EU production, at non-EU cost levels.

For the UK, the trade agreement in force allows preferential duty treatment for qualifying goods with the appropriate proof of origin. For the US and other markets, standard duty rates apply by product classification, and we prepare the documentation your broker needs to classify and clear correctly. Knowing the duty picture before you order is part of an honest landed-cost calculation, and we walk new importers through it at quotation.

The export documents your shipment travels with

Every production order leaves with a complete document set: commercial invoice, detailed packing list with carton-level contents and weights, and the transport document, a CMR note for road freight, air waybill for air, or bill of lading for sea.

Depending on destination we add the preference documents: ATR certificates for EU shipments, EUR.1 or origin declarations where preferential agreements apply, and certificates of origin where a destination requires them. Fabric certificates such as OEKO-TEX documentation and inspection reports travel with the file when your customer or platform requires proof.

  • Commercial invoice matching the order and payment records
  • Packing list with carton dimensions, weights and contents
  • ATR movement certificate for EU-bound goods
  • EUR.1 or origin declaration where preference applies
  • CMR, air waybill or bill of lading per transport mode
  • OEKO-TEX and audit documentation on request per order

Incoterms in plain language

The Incoterm on your quotation decides who arranges and pays for each leg, and where risk transfers. EXW means you collect from the warehouse in Turkey and handle everything, rarely sensible for apparel buyers without their own forwarder. FOB or FCA means we deliver export-cleared goods to the carrier and you control the main freight, common for sea shipments to the US.

Most of our EU clients buy CPT or DAP: we arrange road freight to your city or warehouse, and you handle import clearance and any VAT at destination, or for DAP simply receive the goods with import formalities structured per the agreed term. We quote the terms side by side on request so you can compare true landed costs rather than guessing.

Freight modes, transit times and choosing between them

Road freight is the default for Europe: full truck or groupage loads reach Germany, the Netherlands, France or Poland in three to seven days door to door. Groupage makes small consignments economical, sharing truck space with other cargo at a per-cubic-metre rate.

Air freight serves urgent or high-value shipments worldwide, typically two to five days airport to airport plus clearance, priced by chargeable weight, which garments' volume-to-weight ratio keeps reasonable for compressed packing. Sea freight suits large US and long-haul orders, roughly three to five weeks to US East Coast ports, at the lowest cost per unit. We recommend the mode against your deadline and margin rather than defaulting to one.

How export handling fits into your order

Export is not a separate service you bolt on; it is planned from quotation. Carton specifications, package weights and labelling are set to your warehouse's receiving requirements, export customs clearance is completed in Turkey through licensed brokers, and you receive the document pack digitally before the truck arrives, so your import side is prepared, not surprised.

After final AQL inspection is approved, goods typically load within days. For multi-style orders produced across several network factories, we consolidate at one loading point in Istanbul, one truck, one document set, one delivery, instead of fragmenting your import into pieces.
